Prevention Information Resource Center (PIRC) and Parent Helpline 1-800-342-PIRC (7472) The Prevention Information Resource Center (PIRC) and Parent Helpline offers assistance, information and referrals by phone, mail, internet and in-person at public events. PIRC is a source of help for families, professionals and community members to improve parenting practices and to prevent and intervene in child abuse and neglect. The first line of defense against child abuse is good parenting, so PIRC focuses heavily on serving parents, as well as professionals who work with parents and children. The Parent Helpline is a confidential line, available in English and Spanish, 24 hours a day. Every year, thousands of parents, youth, other family members, and concerned friends and neighbors find the assistance they need through the Parent Helpline. Helpline staff listen carefully to callers’ concerns, help them explore possible courses of action, provide them with needed information, and connect them with services in their community. PIRC and the Parent Helpline assist countless more families by providing professionals and community organizations with information, prevention literature, and resource referrals for the families and children they serve. PIRC develops and disseminates parenting and child abuse prevention literature for parents, kids & teens.
