| 2005 Excellence in Child Abuse Prevention Awards Prevent Child Abuse New York established the Excellence in Child Abuse Prevention Awards ten years ago to recognize organizations and individuals who have played a significant role in preventing child abuse and neglect in our state. These awards honor those who are helping fulfill our vision that all children live in families that love, nurture and protect them. The awards are presented each year at the annual Child Abuse Prevention Conference in Albany. Awarded to Bill Hayes, lifetime board member of Prevent Child Abuse New York. As a founding member of the board of Prevent Child Abuse New York and a clinical social worker at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York, Bill Hayes has worked tirelessly on behalf of children. He was also a founding member of the Otsego Committee Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect—one of the locally-based child abuse initiatives that established Prevent Child Abuse New York—and he continues to play an active leadership role on that county's committee. When he was elected president of Prevent Child Abuse New York in 1994, a statewide child abuse prevention conference was high on his agenda for the organization. The first annual conference was held in 1996. |

Awarded to the New York State Family Resource Center Network, a network of Family Resource Centers supported by the Office of Children and Family Services and the Children and Family Trust Fund. The Family Resource Centers exemplify family support practice and are the essence of primary prevention by providing a relaxed, welcoming, informal and homelike setting where parents are offered an easy and comfortable way to learn new skills, interact with other parents, find pleasure in parenting and discover community resources. The centers recognized below represent urban, rural and suburban communities and in 2004 reached well over 8,000 children and parents: |
